A Club for Portrait Photographers
Late in 2018, unable to find a community of photographers locally (I am not fond of driving far for events), I decided to create the kind of environment I was looking for. I wanted to be able to indulge my passion for portraiture while honing my skills. I hoped to collaborate with other creatives and possibly be able to help support their ideas and visions. I needed a space where the busyness of one’s mind can simultaneously relax and expand.
Organizing and hosting events of all scales is second nature to me so I decided to create an active photography club. This also provided a platform for amazingly talented artists around the country, (who may not have had the opportunity/time/resources to create a workshop) - to become workshop instructors and add the experience to their arsenal of skills.
I created the Alexandria Portrait Photographers Club as a warm and welcoming space (emphasis on - warm and welcoming…) for local artists to connect, collaborate and create together. We had photoshoots, socials, workshops and photowalks in and around various local neighborhoods. HOWEVER once COVID hit and as one who believes in social distancing and mask-wearing, I have shifted my focus away from these large group events. Now that we are emerging from COVID, I have aligned myself with artists who prefer to expand their artistry through smaller, advanced, professionally-focused collaborative efforts.
